Smyrna 2007 Fireworks : Smyrna, Georgia, celebrated it's 135th anniversary on 04 August 2007. The city held its Smyrna Birthday Celebration at the Village Green. At 9:45 pm, the city brightened the night skies with a terrific fireworks display. Despite a scare by series of near-ground level bursts about a third of the way into the planned presentation, the show closed with an unusual visual effect. With a traditionlal close of dozens of fireworks sent into the sky and bursting, the crew sent a flurry of the bright orange-yellow "bees" immediately afterwards that created a brief moment where the sky appeared to melt into a molten lava supernova (see last picture to see the remnants of this effect).
